Europe’s Impact on Climate Change

Climate Change had been established since the early 19th century.

In 2016, The Paris Agreement set a goal to lower temperatures 1.5 degrees Celius compared to pre-industrialization.

In 2022, how are we doing?

Europe v. Climate Change

The EU is adopting many laws in order to reduce climate change. The climate change crisis has significantly impacted Europe’s weather, and they have worked to curb that change. They have committed to having 55% fewer greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 compared to 1990,  which is one of the most ambitious legislations about climate change worldwide.

Europe v. World

  • In 2019, the average per capita emissions for the EU were 6.7 tons per person, while in china they were 7.0 tonnes per person, Australia had 16.9 tonnes per person, and the United States had 16.6 tonnes per person.

  • 40% of wind turbines in the United States are owned by Danish Companies, a country in the European Union

  • The United States annually uses 934.3 gallons per capita, while countries in the European Union, such as Austria, Poland, Romania, and Italy All use under 500 gallons per capita annually

Crumbling Infrastructure around the world/how climate change caused it

  • Infrastructure is under stress from population growth, extreme weather, and climate change

  • Climate change harms infrastructure because it leads to extreme weather events

  • 40000 bridges in the US are structurally deficient

  • Freezing and thawing cycles in the winter can lead to destroyed roads/buildings

What can you do

  • Conserve energy at home

  • Compost food waste (a huge factor in methane emissions)

  • Avoid using cars when you can

  • Eat less farm-raised specimens, since these also contribute to methane emissions
